At the Destination D event held in November of 2016, Disney officially confirmed Epcot will be receiving changes, well now we might know what those may entail. New rumours have surfaced on how Epcot could be receiving new pavilions added to the World Showcase. Those would include Brazil and Spain which would feature new restaurants & attractions. There has been tons of rumours surrounding possible new countries being added to Epcot's World Showcase ever since Norway (the last country to be added) opened in Summer of 1988. However, I do believe that these new Spain & Brazil rumours are true, so I have done some further digging to put some further validity to these rumours. Spain PavilionSpain's possibilities of being added to the World Showcase has always been a conversation throughout most hard-core Disney fans. Going all the way back to 1982 when Disney was handing out a book titled 'Epcot Center: A Pictorial Souvenir'. This book was made to get people excited about Epcot and to give them a glimpse of what's to come. Well towards the very end of the souvenir, we see that Disney had plans to add 3 new countries to the World Showcase. And one of those planned countries was non less, then Spain. We always hear at Disney that great ideas never die. Well the idea of a Spain pavilion stems back all the way to the 1980s. When you think about it, Spain would be near the top of the list out of any countries to be possibly added to the World Showcase. On top of that, Disney is still clearly interested in Spain because many Spanish foods and drinks like the Almond Cake have been featured in past Food and Wine Festivals. Furthermore, if you read the description of Spain it describes how the pavilion will feature a wonderful attraction, well according to this new rumor that attraction will be based off an upcoming Disney film, Gigantic. Jim Hill (very reputable for Disney rumours) says that "The only reason Spain has gone from a "if" to a "when" is because of Gigantic." From a business stand point that scenario would make a lot of sense for Disney, especially once you know what Gigantic is about and the potential it has. Gigantic is Walt Disney Animation's 58th film and is set to be released in November of 2018. The film is based off the Jack and the Beanstalk fairy tale, and the setting is in...Spain! Yes, everything is now starting to fall into place with this Spain Pavilion. All things considered, having a winter 2018 release date is great for Disney, if they have a lot of confidence in this film then they can start construction as soon as possible. Gigantic is Directed by the Director of Tangled, Co-Directed by the Writer of Inside Out, and will feature original music from the Frozen songwriters, so in Disney's eyes (and most of ours) this looks like a shoe in for success. The mind set behind this is that Disney doesn't want to be rushed to make an attraction after another massive hit film like Frozen. Instead, Disney could get a head of everyone and have this entire pavilion done in time for the films release. Concept art of Gigantic Brazil PavilionSimilar to the possible Spain pavilion, talks about a Brazil expansion have been on and off for a very long time. Dating back to 2011, a Brazilian newspaper discussed how Disney had a Brazil Pavilion in the works that would be the first World Showcase expansion since 1988. Talks had died down after no announcement was made. But the subject starts up again as 2 new pieces of evidence have been discovered. Firstly, a user on WDW Magic forums released some supposed concept art for a brazil pavilion. While this concept art does look legit, it was posted all the way back in 2014. And if it were real, I'm sure Disney would have taken it down by now. This information doesn't support the idea of a future Brazil expansion as much as the second piece of evidence does. A few months ago tons of Walt Disney World guests got a survey regarding new restaurants coming to the World Showcase. Well one of the options (at the top of image) is for a Brazilian Steakhouse! This is by far one of the most crucial pieces of evidence towards a Brazil pavilion as this survey came straight from Disney themselves! Location for These ExpaniosnWell if Disney were to announce both of these pavilions where would they go? Well from a birds eye view you of the World Showcase you can clearly see tons of open spots for these expansions. When you're just walking around the World Showcase you don't notice how much free space there actually is. So any of the 9 spots on this map would be a possible destination for any future countries. Note: spot 1 is no longer free space as it was part of the Norway expansion when Frozen was added to Epcot back in 2016. Final ThoughtsWhen you consider all the evidence I strongly believe that both of these rumoured pavilions will come to fruition. These rumours do make a lot of sense logistically and would be hard to debunk. On the other hand there could also be a argument made that would make the likely hood of this happening slim. Either way we do know that big things are headed to Epcot and hopefully we get more information at the D23 Expo this summer. What do you think of these rumours?
