Released back in the fall of 2016, Moana has garnered a large following of fans who are eager to see more of this world and Disney may just be ready to deliver some shiny new content. Here we'll look through all clues and official information we have to see what's in store for the future of the Moana franchise. Most recently, according to Nielsen's in-depth streaming charts, Moana was the 2nd most watched film across all genres and all streaming services in 2021. That's extremely remarkable as Moana is by far the oldest film on the list with every other movie being 3-5 years more recent. This without a doubt will catch Disney's attention and it shows that fans of Moana can't get enough of the film and constantly revisit it, and/or the film is attracting new viewers to boast the fandom even more. Either way it shows how immensely popular Moana is despite it being pretty contained to one film and not a full-fledged franchise, at least not yet. Just a few months ago Walt Disney World started it's 50th anniversary celebration by launching a slew of new offering at their parks. One of those being a grand nighttime spectacular that blends fireworks and projections to close the night at the Magic Kingdom. It featured many huge Disney franchises like Frozen, Cars, Lion King, and more but it also included Moana. Disney is really elevating Moana to have it mixed in with their heavy hitters showing the amount of confidence they have in the Polynesian princess. In a few years from now Moana will also be expanding into another park at Disney World, Epcot. A new walkthrough attraction named Moana: Journey of Water is currently under construction and will consist of interaction fountains, unique water features, and mazes. An official continuation of the Moana film is on the way and it's taking an interesting approach with a lot of questions up in the air. A Moana series is set to release in 2023 on Disney+ and will directly pick up where the film left off. It's unclear if all the actors are reprising their roles or if song writer Lin Manuel-Miranda will continue to write new music. Unlike Monsters At Work, a Monsters Inc follow up series, it wasn't produced by Pixar, this Moana series is created by Walt Disney Animation Studios. Does this mean that they went the path of a series instead of a second film? Or is this more of a smaller scale story that leaves room for more movies? More and more Moana is being added to the Disney zeitgeist and it seems like it may just be the beginning as Disney, like all entertainment companies, love creating new franchises. Will we see more integration into Disney parks, more films, more shows? Who knows exactly but It certainly looks like Disney is just starting to expand Moana's universe which will lead to a big thank you from fans and a your welcome from Disney! Are you a fan of Moana?
