Finding Dory opened in over 4300 theaters over its June 17th weekend. The movie didn't just set a record for Pixar films, it set a record for all of animation. Finding Dory currently holds a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the 10th highest rated Pixar film. But that didn't stop it from surprising many people when it was announced that Finding Dory racked in 136m$ on it domestic opening weekend. The last (and only) Pixar film to open to over 100m$ on its first domestic weekend ending up making over 1 billion dollars at the world wide box office (Toy Story 3). I'm sure Disney Pixar is happy to see a great box office return (Finding Dory) after The Good Dinosaur under performed at the box office last November. Finding Dory made more money in its first weekend then the Good Dinosaur did in its entire domestic run. It seems like the 13 year wait for the successor to Finding Nemo was worth it, we look forward to seeing what other accomplishments Finding Dory can achieve.
