After starting off as an animator over two decades ago, could Angus MacLane become one of Disney's most exciting up and coming directors? Written by Alex Zaslavsky Winner of two Annie awards and over 17 productions including directorial efforts on short films such as BURN-E, Small Fry, Toy Story of Terror! and the theatrical hit Finding Dory, he has built up a great resume. Angus clearly has the experience to helm an entire project himself. While some of you may say he's already a feature director due to the Finding Dory credit, that is true but this editorial is about him directing his own original movie and not helping someone like Andrew Stanton on Dory. The fact that 3/4 of Angus MacLane's directing credits are a part of massive franchises such as Toy Story and Finding Nemo, shows he could possibly be taking a semi-similar route to fellow Pixar employee and feature director Dan Scanlon. Scanlon started directing Cars Toons and eventually Monsters University (work for two big franchises), before developing a new original film which was announced at D23 Expo 2017. Could this be the same template of sorts that Angus is following? Angus MacLane is also part of Pixar's Brain Trust group which mostly consists of already established or upcoming directors. He joined the group at a particular time that points further to the possibility of the creation of his own film. That time was after his work concluded on Finding Dory as it released back in June 2016, therefore giving him time to explore his next venture at Pixar. For me this points to two possibilities. One, Disney liked the work he's been doing on previous projects and decided to invite him to the group, or two, he's developing his own original film and with that comes the automatic (if not already) inclusion of the Pixar Brain Trust. This is the second in a editorial series I've been working on for Magic Mania. The first was on Paul Briggs and my prediction about his directorial efforts on a new film was later confirmed. I have 3 more in the works and I love writing about this type of stuff as it's my dream job to one day become a Disney animation director. I have no intent on ruining a future Disney announcement or anything like that with these type of articles. I just have tons of fun speculating on the future holds for animated films within The Walt Disney Company. Make sure to stay up to date with everything going on in Disney news, right here at Magic Mania! We hope to see you real soon! Oh, and one more thing... have a Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Day
